Vision
EduSports will create a generation of ‘Champions in Life’ -Healthier & Fitter children equipped with key life-skills- All through the magic of sports.
EduSports programmes help create “Physically Educated” children while ensuring that all stakeholders (Schools, Parents & Policymakers) are involved in the process.
Philosophy
EduSports programmes are designed around the core principles of
- Inclusiveness (Every child MUST play)
- Age-Appropriateness (Right Skills at the Right Age)
- All programmes are designed specifically to work in Indian context. They can operate in limited spaces and actively engage large class sizes.
The scientifically designed, structured EduSports programmes help physical education & sports get to the same level of rigor, focus and stakeholder involvement that exists in academic subjects in schools.
History
SportzVillage, the parent company of EduSports was set up in September 2003. The starting premise was that sports have to be an integral part of every child’s education and upbringing. Through sports children learn key life-lessons about teamwork, leadership, dealing with failure, setting goals etc that are key to success in adult life. However, SportzVillage realized not many children had the luxury of a good facility to play at school or after-school and we wanted to make a difference by creating the infrastructure to play. SportzVillage provided children with the infrastructure to play in the evenings. Over the next 12 months parents and children were delighted to walk into SportzVillage every evening and simply play. SportzVillage was beginning to make a difference.
At the same time, the SportzVillage team was not fully convinced if the model was scalable (esp. scale fast enough). That got the team thinking in terms of the different stakeholders (Governments, Schools, Corporates etc.) who could possibly partner to create an ecosystem for children to play (with the right infrastructure/guidance/tools etc.).
Through 2008, as the SportzVillage team talked with more and more schools, the team realised that schools are the ideal partners for creating a physically active generation. The school sports/physical education was hived off into a separate business in January 2009 and was called ‘EduSports’ with a goal to provide holistic education in schools via sports.
